ATHENS TOURIST INFORMATION

Athens Tourist Information - There are three main National Tourism Offices in and around Athens. These offices have the lots of leaflets of things to see, events, local maps, schedules for buses and the suburban train and metro. They also will provide you with info on the many ferries around the Athens area. You can also find the free issues of 'This Week in Athens' and this is invaluable for finding out about what’s on during your stay in Athens. If you need it these offices can help you with finding a hotel or other accommodation. These offices all have English speaking staff so it is worth dropping in as they can be a very valuable resource.

Travel Guide

Greece uses the euro currency and so there is an easy exchange of currency for non EU visitors at banks, bureau de change and many hotels. You’ll find ATM’s taking many cards all over the place and nearly all hotels, restaurants, shops etc accept major credit cards

You can buy special tickets at the Tourist Offices or at any one of the half dozen sites it covers including the Agora and the Acropolis. The ticket costs 12-15 euro and there are further reductions for EU citizens, Senior Citizens and Students.

If you find yourself stranded with no Accommodation in Athens or in any kind of difficulty, you can get assistance from the local offices of the tourist police, which are attached to many of the police stations, particularly those in tourist areas. This excellent service is to help tourists who are in any kind of difficulty, are the victims of a crime and they also will be translators for travellers who have any dealings with the regular Athens police force.

Shops in general keep long hours, with many open from 8 am to 9 pm. The majority are closed on Sundays.
